Cohanim Cleanse
From Episode XXII: Tazria-Metzora with Adrian Shanker:
For a cleansing drink that is sure to purify your body and soul, we present, the Cohanim Cleanse.
Start by muddling a few cucumber slices at the bottom of a shaker. Add in 2 oz vodka of your choosing, ½ oz lemon juice, ¼ oz honey, 1 egg white, a few dashes of bitters, and ¼ oz ginger syrup. We’ve covered ginger syrup on the show before — a cup each water and sugar in a saucepan with 4 oz ginger, peeled and roughly chopped, brought to a boil, left to steep off the heat for 30 mins, then strained and chilled.
Shake up your drink without ice to get that egg nice and frothy, then add ice and shake again until chilled, then strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cucumber slice and a sprinkle of cayenne pepper.
For a non-alcoholic version, replace the vodka with water and add a few extra cucumber slices for flavor.
Also, for a vegan-friendly cocktail, replace the egg white with aquafaba — the brine from a can of chickpeas.
Between the ginger, the honey, and the cayenne, along with the cooling refreshment of the cucumber, this drink feels as good as it tastes. Whether you’re inside or outside of the camp, pour yourself a drink and enjoy.
