From Episode IX: Vayechi with Sierra Jay Debrow and Koach Baruch Frazier:

First: a HUGE thank you to Sierra for being willing to come up with several names and ideas for drinks and collaborating with us on the reasoning behind this one! For Vayechi, we bring you a special take on the whiskey sour with HaAchim HaChamutzim, The “Sour Brothers” — a cocktail that has some sweet, some sour, and a whole bunch of bitters included within it.

Combine 2 oz rye (or your choice of whiskey, you do you), ¾ oz lemon juice, ½ oz simple syrup — which is a decent amount of sugar, but a lot of recipes call for more, I just personally like to be able to taste the alcohol, so feel free to go up to ¾ oz — and one egg white in a shaker. Shake vigorously with ice to get that egg nice and frothy. Pour into a chilled glass with 2 maraschino cherries at the bottom and top with a few drops of bitters (try to get those separate, and then swirl them together with a toothpick for a fun design).

The lemon juice symbolizes Jacob’s sour words to his sons on his deathbed, but the syrup dulls that sting. The two oz of whiskey are for Simeon and Levi. The late addition of the cherries represents Jacob’s adoption of Ephraim and Manesseh. The swirled bitters, though, you know, bitter, are beautiful, making the best of a bad situation.

For a nonalcoholic version, replace the bitters with a citrus peel and the whiskey with either a mixture of ½ oz vanilla extract and 1.5 oz water or with the full 2 oz of cool maple tea.

Make one for you, one for your sibling, kick your feet up, and revel in being the greatest sibling around.
