Five Daughters Daiquiri
From Episode XXXIII: Pinchas with Sara Shapiro-Plevan:
In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 oz rum, 1 oz fresh lime juice, ¾ oz simple syrup, a dash orange bitters, and 5 basil leaves for the five daughters. Count them off — Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirtzah — shake with ice, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
For a non-alcoholic version, we’re going to stir 2 oz orange seltzer together with 1 oz fresh lime juice, ¾ oz simple syrup, and the requisite 5 basil leaves. Pour into a cocktail glass and pinch an orange rind overtop to release those essential oils and drop it in, because why not.
For either version, top with a twist of fresh ground black pepper for all of those burnt offerings and a chiffonade of basil, because I enjoy saying “Chiffonade,” and for the herb’s spicy aroma and sweet taste.
Make one, make five, pass it down to your daughters, and enjoy.
