Gold Fashioned

From Episode 219 - Ki Tisa with Rabbi Ben Spratt and Cantor Shayna De Lowe:

Start with 1 ½ oz gold tequila for the gold instruments of the mishkan and the golden calf. Add in ½ oz of mezcal to get in that smokiness from Moses’s burning of the golden calf. Next, a dash of bitters for how awful that ash-water must have tasted. Now, it can’t all be bad, so let’s remember that we also get some festivals! Add in 1 tsp honey for sweetness and even more gold color.

For a non-alcoholic version, use 1 ½ oz lemonade, ½ oz lime juice, a dash of smoked paprika, and the same tsp honey.

Either way, stir it all up until the honey is dissolved and strain over ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with a lemon twist and a sprinkling of gold leaf flakes, if you’re feeling fancy like that.

A toast to Torah and not to golden cows. L’chayim!
